About Le Cercle

The Cercle International Pierre Soulages was created in 2023 by a group of contemporary art enthusiasts who share a passion for the works of the late Pierre Soulages (1919 – 2022) and the museum that bears his name. Its primary mission is financial support of the museum to ensure its long-term viability, contributing to key acquisitions, museum expansion, temporary exhibits, and more.

Your commitment

In addition to fiscal and other benefits, your commitment to the Cercle International Pierre Soulages permits you and/or your company to actively participate in enhancing the standing of the Musée Soulages through expanding, protecting, and restoring its collections, creating world-class temporary exhibits, and introducing it to a global audience.

In 2005, Pierre & Colette Soulages made a remarkably generous donation of 500 artworks and documents, the largest-ever donation of its kind from a living artist. This gift kicked off the unlikely adventure of this unique museum. In 2008, the small Catalan firm RCR arquitectes was selected to design the museum from a pool of 99 of the world’s most renowned architectural firms, resulting in the astonishing building that now houses the Musée Soulages. RCR won the Pritzker prize for architecture in 2017.

Since its opening in 2014, more than a million visitors have discovered this cultural gem, and its collections have grown through works held in trust from various museums and collections.

While the museum is largely self-sufficient, and managed by a grouping of public partners, budgets are limited. Its long-term prospects and opportunities for growth rely on the Cercle International Pierre Soulages, making your commitment to our efforts a crucial and admirable cultural investment.
